New Patterns From Porter Teleo

One of my favorite wallcovering companies, Porter Teleo (previously here) who make exquisite handmade and hand painted products, has several exciting new patterns to choose from!

Inspired by a walk in the South of France, AMITIÉ is a large scale botanical print that features branches adorned with abstracted blossoms of alpine rose, orange blossoms, and silver wattle. It comes in three colorways: Argent, Bleu, and Copper.

The sinuous forms of ECHO reference the wire sculptures of Ruth Asawa. Available in four colorways: Blush, Copper, Polished Bronze, and Zinc.

Representing human touch, botanical life, dreams, and the essence of artistic composition, the symbols of SIGNATURE reference the origins of Porter Teleo and the brand's core values of humanity, nature, and aesthetic individualism. In Cadmium, Creme, Noir, and Verdatre.

And finally, IN THE WILD is a striking, complicated pattern reminiscent of dynamic flowers, leaf-like abstractions, oversized shells, and curiously playful shapes which comes in Brown Umber, Cadmium Red, Graphite, and Ultramarine.

New Patterns From Porter Teleo!

I have been enchanted by the glorious handmade, handpainted wallcoverings made by Porter Teleo for many years now. And they have introduced three new patterns that are just as gorgeous as their classics.

Emergence is a pattern of soft water lily leaves. Porter Teleo describes it: "This pattern draws inspiration from the profound symbolism of water lilies in Buddhism and Hinduism, where they represent spiritual rebirth. The large-scale botanical subjects highlight the fascinating structural beauty of lily pads that allows their leaves to float gracefully on water, presenting a unique blend of abstraction and mathematical precision."

Next is an origami-like pattern called Kimono. "The juxtaposition of the natural, mottled backgrounds and the bright, metallic linework creates a crisp, modern all-over pattern. This striking contrast pays homage to the meticulous craftsmanship of kimonos, celebrating the thoughtful selection of materials for their distinct qualities."

I am most excited about Mariposa, inspired by the line work found on the wings of butterflies. "MARIPOSA’s muralistic composition is an exaggerated and zoomed-in interpretation of the beauty found all around us in nature." I am in love with the shapes of this one.

Wallpaper: Porter Teleo

I love wallpaper and I am not ashamed! I know many people shrink from the mere mention of it, but I have discovered that those people have bad memories of ugly wallpaper from their grandmother's house in the 60s or 70s. Of course contemporary wallcoverings are light years from grandma's foil bathroom. There are incredibly innovative and beautiful wallcoverings being made now and this post is part of a continuing series of the world of wallcoverings. Take for example the fantastic wallcovering company Porter Teleo--they have been on my radar ever since I saw the inimitable Kelly Wearstler using some of their wallcoverings and fabrics in her projects.

The Porter Teleo site tells their story:

"Porter Teleo is a line of hand printed, hand painted wallcovering and fabric developed by artist Kelly Porter and interior designer Bridgett Cochran. The patterns are created by employing a variety of fine art processes, such as woodblocking, painting, and chine colle.

The product enlivens the best of fine art and high design, presenting a bold, distinctive color palette with refined aesthetic. The unique styling is drawing from ancient Japanese screens, antique architectural ornamentation, and the hand of artist Kelly Porter.

Signs and Signifiers brings to mind the work of the great artist Cy Twombly. The scribbled-yet-organized look compliments modern interiors beautifully.
